My dental prosthesis
Which type of denture to choose ?
quality: very good | cost: highest price
quality: good | cost: medium
quality: fair to poor | cost: lowest price
The need for a dental prosthesis should be satisfied as soon as possible. Otherwise, bone loss occurs and present teeth can move in their alveolar sockets. One will look older, with effects on self-esteem, quality of life and daily functioning.
Placing dental implants to recover lost teeth is not the best solution to all situations. There are alternatives, which in certain cases proof to be the best choice.
How many teeth do you want to replace?
- 1 tooth
The best solution is an implant-supported dental crown. The worst alternative is an acrylic removable partial denture. *[if you wish to use this type of denture then choose an RPD - removable partial denture with a metallic framework]
- 2 teeth
Again, implant-supported dental appliances take advantage. A good alternative is a dental bridge, specially if any, or both teeth adjacent to edentulous space, need to be restored. In such case 4 crowns must be considered (2 abutment teeth and 2 pontics).
- 3 teeth
With 3 missing teeth cost become a more important factor. Dental implants keep the best attributes but a dental bridge with 5 elements (3 pontics + 2 abutments) is something to consider, because the prices are lower. *[once more a removable partial denture can be considered although is the worst option]
- 4, 5 or 6 teeth
With this quantity, the cost for implant-supported teeth or dental bridge is so high that a removable denture become more interesting. *[RPD - removable partial denture]
- All teeth - completely edentulous arch
When all teeth are missing the best thing to do is to get a total bridge fixed to dental implants. Only patient financial conditions or medical reasons can eliminate this type of dental rehabilitation in favor to complete acrylic removable denture.
